How to Skateboard

  1. Be genuine. Make sure you're in it for the right reasons. Don't skate just to be 'cool', or get sponsored and make a lot of money. You should skate because you love skateboarding. If you really enjoy it, everything else will follow.
  2. Visit your local skate shop. This is a great way to see what works and what doesn't. Just by looking at others and asking them how their board, wheels, etc. hold up, you will learn what is worth buying.
  3. Practice. For tips on how to do moves, you can always watch a move in a video in slow motion and pay attention to the foot movement. Sequence photos are another great way to learn. But basically, the more you practice, the better you will be. Don't get discouraged because you can't land a trick the first or second try. Just practice and have fun, and you will get the trick eventually.
  4. Don't worry. Other people will always progress faster or tell you what to wear. Skateboarding is only about you and your board. Just have fun. At the end of the day, a different t-shirt brand won't help you skate any better than blue hair.
  5. Go skate! Find some other skaters to skate with. It helps you to learn from their styles or different skill levels. If you don't know anyone, just talk to some other skaters at the local skatepark. They are usually friendly, and will help you out.

  • Get accustomed to the board. Put it on some soft grass, stand on it, then lean to the left and to the right.
  • Find a small, secluded place to start. A driveway is perfect for just rolling around until you get the hang of things.
  • Watch a few skateboarding videos and see if you understand how some of the simpler tricks are performed. An ollie is a very easy trick, and generally a good one to start with.
  • When you are done skating, always lubricate your bearings.
  • Learn the language. Skateboarders have specific terms for all of the tricks and parts of a skateboard.
  • Find someone who is proficient on a skateboard and willing to show you a few things.
  • What is snake?

Slang tearm used by skaterboarders at skate parks or skate spots. Normaly skaters have an unofficial "line" that you are waighting in to skate a certian spot, The skaters may not be in an actual line but take notice of who they go after and who has already gone, etc.
A snake is someone who continously skates with out giving others a chance, or skates an obsticle, pool, ramp, or rail while another skater is already skating it.

Often times snaking is done by experianced and impatient skaters using it as an attempt to clear the area so they have it to them selvs. Other times a "crew" will come in and snake everyone to try and clear the pool / park / ramp so that the members of the "crew" can skate it.
Snaking can also be done by accident as it is easy for 2 skaters to accidently drop in at the same time.

"That guys such a snake, he's dropin in every other person"
"Yeah I had fun, but there was a lota snakes at the park today"
